CHURCH DIARY OF EVENTS

Until Sunday 10th April 2011:  A year long event which includes special celebrations to mark the 150 YEARS of the ST.GEORGE’S URC CHURCH BUILDING.

MARCH

Saturday 26th @ 7.30pm:  Social Event, “The Way We Were”.  An evening of light-hearted entertainment based on the 150 years of St. George’s Church and including references to events that have taken place in the Morpeth area during that period complete with sketches, music and song AND good food as well.  Tickets are available in advance from 01670 517431 and cost £8.00 (including a three-course meal).   SORRY - NOW FULLY BOOKED

 

Sunday 27th  @ 10.30am: Morning Service with special reference to those of any age who were baptized in St. George’s.  With St. George’s Orchestra.

 

Monday 28th @ 7.00pm:  Another session of the 'Big Read' in the Drysdale Room.

  APRIL

Friday 1st from 9.30am: Wansbeck Music Festival Classes for Strings (in the church) .  Nominal entrance fee for spectators.

 

Saturday 2nd from 9.30am: Wansbeck Music Festival Classes for Brass (in the church) .  Nominal entrance fee for spectators.

 

Saturday 2nd @ 6.30pm: Wansbeck Music Festival Closing Concert at which there will be further performances from a number of class winners / young prizewinners.  Announcement of winners of bursaries and presentations will be made by the Mayor of Morpeth and representatives of Newbiggin and Ashington local councils.

Sunday 3rd @ 10.30am: Morning Worship with Communion.

Monday 4th @ 7.00pm:  Another session of the 'Big Read' in the Drysdale Room.

Saturday 9th @ 2.30pm: All members and friends are invited to Afternoon Tea with music from the Guide Post Big Band.  Dancing is optional.  Tickets are now available at £5.00. This event is to celebrate the approach of the end of St. George's 150th year in the current building.

Sunday 10th @ 10.30am: Morning Worship, followed by Church Annual General Meeting.

 

Monday 11th @ 7.00pm:  Another session of the 'Big Read' in the Drysdale Room.

 

Thursday 14th @ 2.30pm:  Teatime Talk – this is another in the series of teatime talks about interesting subjects by members of the local community.  This talk will be given by Derek Melia and his chosen subject is on ‘Changes in Pharmacy over Fifty Years’, followed, as usual by a cream tea with scones, jam, cream and tea.  Admission £2.00.

 

Saturday 16th @ 7.00pm: The Morpeth Lions are hosting a concert in the church by the Lemington Male Voice Choir, along with the Performing Arts Group of Sunderland and Northumbria Universities.  Tickets are available at £8.00 from Staits Photographers in Newgate Street, Morpeth or from any Lions member on the door.

 

Sunday 17th @ 10.30am: Morning Worship for Palm Sunday.

                          @ 3.30pm: Cradle Roll Service.

 

Monday 18th @ 7.00pm:  Another session of the 'Big Read' in the Drysdale Room.

Wednesday 20th @ 12.30pm:  Lunchtime Concert – this is our final concert of the season, presented by two students from the Royal Academy of Music, Rachel Chesney (clarinet) and Akiko Tominaga (piano)  Tea and coffee available from 12.00 noon.  Admission is £3.00.  For more information, please call 01670 515870.

 

Thursday 21st @ 7.30pm: Maudy Thursday Service at St. George’s.

 

Friday 22nd (Good Friday) @ 10.00am: Joint Morning Worship service at Morpeth Methodist Church, Howard Terrace.

Sunday 24th (Easter Day) @ 10.30am: Easter Day Morning Worship including communion.

Friday 29th to Sunday May 1st: MORPETH GATHERING – numerous events throughout the town including main parade along  Newgate Street

and  Bridge Street on the Saturday morning.

MAY

Sunday 1st @ 10.30am: Morning Worship.  Special MORPETH GATHERING service including St. George’s Orchestra.

Sunday 8th @ 10.30am: Morning Worship including Communion.

 

Thursday 19th @ 2.30pm:  Teatime Talk – this is another in the series of teatime talks about interesting subjects by members of the local community.  This talk will be given by Chris Hills whose chosen subject is  ‘On the Buses - Fifty Years', followed, as usual by a cream tea with scones, jam, cream and tea.  Admission £2.00.

 JUNE

Friday 24th (evening): A Murder Mystery Evening will be held in the Church Hall, and presented by the St..George’s Community Players.  Tickets will be available after April 1st and will include a three-course meal .

 

JULY

Sunday 31st – afternoon: Blessing the Fields Service @ Causey Farm North.

 

TO HIRE ST. GEORGE’S HALL : St. George’s Church Hall is above the main body of the church and is available for hire by local organisations on a regular or occasional basis and by private parties for special occasions.  The hall is accessible by stairs and a lift is available if required.  To enquire about bookings, please send an email to urcstgeorges@googlemail.com.
